Man Charged With Allegedly Raping A 6-Year-Old Girl In Church Bathroom

A Franklin County man has found himself in hot water after allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl in a church bathroom. Court documents state that the young girl was headed to the bathroom when she bumped into 33-year-old William Coffey in a hallway. The assailant then grabbed her and carried her to the men’s bathroom where he raped her.

Court documents clarify that Coffey “covered the mouth of the victim when she attempted to scream.” After he committed the evil act, he let the girl go.

The sad incident occurred at the Body of Christ Church, located on Spring Road in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The little girl went back to her parents and informed them of what had befell her. However, by the time she told her parents about it, Coffey had already left the church premises. The suspect’s father, Ed Coffey, was at the church during the incident.

“All I know is, and I’ll say is, I was with him for 45 minutes in the church. Okay?” Ed Coffey said. “Continuing our meeting, nothing was going on. We left quietly, went out, nobody said a thing. We got home and that’s when I got a call.”

The Body of Christ Church later said in a statement that Coffey, the suspect, wasn’t even a church member and was only at the church for a men’s Bible study. They also said they’ve got stringent measures and guidelines for personnel working with children.

“Our ultimate concern and care now and has always been for the child and family involved,” it said.

Authorities arrested Coffey and charged him with first-degree s*x offense against a child, first-degree kidnapping and indecent liberties with a minor. He was then locked up at the Wake County Jail on a bond of $1 million.

“It’s disturbing that there’s people out there, especially going to church and being part of the community that would do those kinds of things,” said Chase Baker, Coffey’s neighbor. “I hope he gets convicted to the full extent of the law.”

Court papers further reveal that Coffey was an existing s*x offender, having served two years and three months in prison after he was convicted of raping a 9-year-old girl in 2009. According to Raleigh police, Coffey encountered the minor while walking from a swimming pool at a north Raleigh apartment complex. Coffey then inappropriately touched her.
