CAMERA Exposes Well-Orchestrated Assault on Evangelical Support for Israel

“Transgressing and denying Hashem, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and perverseness, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.” Isaiah 59:13 (The Israel Bible™)

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) has released a monograph exposing the roots and effects of a well-orchestrated attack on Evangelical support for Israel.

Recent trends in the Evangelical world reveal a shifting away from its historic support for Israel under the influence of a politically motivated, religious crusade that is spearheaded by Palestinian Christians and advanced by Christian leaders in the West. These leaders not only support the Palestinian cause, but help promote its anti-Zionist message to an extensive audience in the US and around the world,” said Tricia Miller Ph.D., CAMERA Senior Research Analyst.

“Anti-Israel groups are spreading a fallacious theological and historical narrative in which Jesus is reinvented as a Palestinian, not a Jew,” added Miller. “The story rewrites history for the purpose of delegitimizing the existence of the Jewish State.”

CAMERA’s monograph has two main goals. The first is to equip Evangelicals with the information necessary to refute the faulty narrative at the heart of the Palestinian Christian anti-Israel message.

The second objective is to negate the threat Christian anti-Zionism poses to Evangelical-Jewish relations through the presentation of compelling reasons for continued cooperation between Jews and Evangelicals for the sake of Israel.

Through the false claim that Palestinians – not Jews – are the indigenous people of the land, the Jewish connection to the land is denied, Jesus becomes a Palestinian, and the biblical account is effectively rewritten.

“This narrative is anti-Jewish and anti-Israel, but it is anti-Christian as well because the Christian faith is rooted in Jesus’ Jewish identity and the history of the Jews in the land,” said Dexter Van Zile, CAMERA Christian Media Analyst.

The information in the monograph derives from an all day conference convened in Los Angeles in January 2016.

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) is the oldest and largest Middle East media monitoring organization in the world, with scholars and offices in Europe, Israel and the Americas.
